Super 8 (2011)
After witnessing a mysterious train crash, a group of friends in the summer of 1979 begin noticing strange happenings going around in their small town, and begin to investigate into the creepy phenomenon.
Well, hello there 80s!!!
J.J. Abrams takes a knee and opens wide taking in all the Spielberg he can. He had me with Star Trek (2009) and then this “viral driven” anticipated film of the year came out…
Not just your average eye-candy sci-fi flick, this one’s got heart! Very Steven Spielberg: E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) meets The Goonies (1985)with some horror sci-fi elements and Abrams signature “lens flare/glare” effect.
A character driven kiddie adventure! Finally “substance over style”… well not really. This was visually spectacular motion picture. So much eye candy partnered with a story that we could all learn from: Letting go.
The humor was spot-on and the casting was just right. And you gotta have the fat kid!
Was it all hype? No. There is something “special” about Super 8, not as the imagination would picture it. An old idea made new, pretty cool.
Fun for the whole family! I’d say this was a “steady” film, that brought me back to my youth.
*I ain’t gonna say more because critics have spoiled the fun for me (prior to my viewing), i wouldn’t wanna do that to my readers.
