Clue (1985)
Six guests are invited to a strange house and must cooperate with the staff to solve a murder mystery.
Based on the board game Cluedo, by Anthony E. Pratt.
I still remember the 1st time i caught this on late night cable. I loved the multiple ending bit, and couldn’t wait to find a copy and watch it again. This was THE who-done-it of all who-done-its. Funny and entertaining! One of my favorite board games comes to life… Two thumbs up!
This was also the 1st time Tim Curry caught my attention. Wadsworth owned this film. Especially in the part where he’s running around explaining at the end. And Doc Brown!!! Christopher Lloyd playin’ the studly Professor Plum. It brings me joy revisiting this film with these two childhood icons on screen.
And Yvette… oh my puberty, Yvette, Yvette, Yvette. The cutest and hottest French maid every young boy fantasizes about. Goddamn.
Trivia: The murder scenes from the movie are an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Ten Little Indians.
A great film with great talent and content. Realistic and unbelievable at the same time (multiple endings), which manages to succeed and present the first movie based on a board game.
The cast drove this film and performed at the highest level. Perfect. Each had their own spark and as a whole this film rocked. A character driven murder mystery comedy. I’d call this one of those timeless films.
“And monkey’s brains, though popular in Cantonese cuisine, are not often to be found in Washington D.C”
A genuinely fun crime comedy everyone has to see.

Gantz (2011)
After trying to rescue a man on the subway tracks, two teens wake up in a room dominated by a mysterious black sphere that sends them to hunt down and kill aliens hiding on Earth.
Based on the Manga by Hiroya Oku. Which was made into a TV series Gantz (2004) and is now brought to the big screen with this live action adaptation.
Starring one of my new favorite actors Kenichi Matsuyama, better known as “L” of the Death Note Saga. Fans should also check out his performance in Detroit Metal City (2008).
Note: I have not read the manga nor have i followed the tv show.
From what i saw I thought this was a decent film. I was entertained by the story, the action and the unexpected violence. The CGI, costumes and prop work was not that bad. The creatures/aliens were pretty cool (quirky), at some point it reminded me of some video games, even though effects were standard (looking).
Might not be everyone’s cup-o-tea, and i don’t know if it stays true to the original material. I like these manga/anime-ish type of films. And i can’t wait to see them step it up in Gantz: Part II (2011).
Made in Japan.

Dead Space: Aftermath (2011)
An animated film that bridges the storyline between Dead Space and Dead Space 2.
I’d seen the Dead Space: Downfall (2008), and frankly… i wasn’t at all impressed. An added factor is my unfamiliarity with the game/world/story. I haven’t had a console in years (last game i actually finished was RE4 & LoZ: Twilight Princess- borrowed a wii from a friend). “I am NOT a gamer”.
So my expectations for this ‘toon was pretty low… It was a good thing too. At the beginning i said out loud “look at this fuckin’ cheap CGI” and then the first segment came in. (To my relief) This is segmented into 5 parts: 1. The CGI (base) Narrative 2. Arsonphobia 3. Insectophobia 4. Claustrophobia 5. Secrets and Affairs (reveal).
Among all the different cartoons, i really liked the insect/Alejandro story (which helped hold my attention) and the last story. There was to much crap in-between the parts i liked. All-in-all, this was a bit lame. The CGI start and end really sucked balls, low budget tv graphics, and crappy movement. Horrible.
*saNINJA was able to identify one of the artists as the one who did Kill Bill: Vol.1 (2003), it’s all in the eyes (O-Ren Ishii).
Bah… humbug. A good attempt at doing a The Animatrix (2003) thing, like the segmented animations: Halo Legends (2010), Dante’s Inferno: An Animated Epic (2010) and Batman: Gotham Knight (2008). The CGI bits just really ruined Aftermath…
I’m gonna give this a “FAIL”, but give my 2 favorite segments an “OK”. What a waste…
*Is it a big factor i don’t play the game??? Maybe…

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)
Based on the popular video game franchise, female fighter Chun Li embarks on a quest for justice.
Finally, i got to see this! thank you hospital cable tv.
It’s not bad… the problem with some people… if you’re gonna say somthing bad about a film say it right… IT’S FUCKIN’ HORRIBLE!!! Bwahahahahaha!
“I thought she was a hot lesbian” Kristin Kreuk as Chun Li??? Were they blind??? what horrible casting, who the fuck made these decisions? Neal McDonough and Michael Clarke Duncan got dragged along with this debocle of a film. Chris Klein is still alive… die already. You’re never going to amount to anything more than the loser/pretty boy in American Pie (1999).
The story… FUCK the story, why should i bother? It’s just stupid and lame. Chun Li was a character that was the definition of “computer geek boner”, the simple mention of her name used to bring upon hard-ons. And then now we have this??? FUCK.
Another videogame character ruined, next please?
Here are the other SHIT fighting game films i’ve reviewed:
*Why can’t videogame fighting movies be like THIS?

Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010)
While still out to destroy the evil Umbrella Corporation, Alice joins a group of survivors who want to relocate to the mysterious but supposedly unharmed safe haven known only as Arcadia.
Wham! Bam! Ka-blam! A non-stop zombie slaying action packed bonanza. Just what I expected it to be. The movies may have strayed from the video game story, a nice thing to know is that the director of the 1st Resident Evil (2002), Paul W.S. Anderson, returns to the helm. Redeeming himself from the “bacon covered zombie dogs”.
Milla Jovovich reprises her role as Alice for the fourth time. Ali Larter returns to R.E. as well as the tough chick Claire Redfield. And hottie Sienna Guillory also makes a return as Jill Valentine (My favorite character)! not enough for ya? Wentworth Miller adds some Hollywood firepower as Chris Redfield. The characters/cast did not disappoint.
Overall, we know what to expect from R.E. films. Action and heads gettin’ blown up while being chased by freakish mutations under the control of an evil organization. Visually stunning and violently gratifying.

The Wild Hunt (2010)
A medieval reenactment game turns into a Shakespearean tragedy when a non-player crashes the event to win back his girlfriend.
Medieval role playing gone bad! What a great/dorky concept, mixed with a little Lord of the Flies (1990).
The geek in me was jealous as hell. I wanna be a viking too! Oh, and leading lady Kaniehtiio Horn was pretty damn hot, in a dark way.
The story revolves around a man’s quest to win back his woman. Pretty typical when you think about it… but imagine a modern meets medieval love story.
The battle scenes in this Canadian flick are nothing like what was shown in the comedy Role Models (2008). The fights, location and costumes were respectable. The idea of having a “Wild Hunt” in the game was a great touch.
The sub-culture rules and regulations are also fascinating, seeing already they’ve taken “their escape from reality” a little too seriously. I’m guessin’ that’s the moral in this story.
It’s a game, chill out man.

Silent Hill (2006)
A woman goes in search for her daughter, within the confines of a strange, desolate town called Silent Hill. Based on the video game.
Silent Hill IS THE BEST video game movie! Thanks to the non-stop Silent Hill posts, I decided to revisit this awesome horror (thanks tumblr).
The story may not be completely true to the games story, but it’s definitely true to the look/atmosphere and added a twist of it’s own. Amazing dark-fantasy visuals, just like in the creepy game.
The monsters were grotesquely fugly and memorable, just like the game it had a dark/scary theme. So far this has got to be the best crossover from game to film. They also included some first person P.O.V. shots, giving it that in-game look. Even the B.G.M. was perfect, sound effect quality really makes a huge difference in creeping us out.
This horror-suspense-mystery stars Radha Mitchell, who instantly caught my attention in the solid sci-fi Pitch Black (2000). Co-starring is Laurie Holden, seen in another horror i’ve just reviewed recently, The Mist (2007). Sean Bean adds as the man searching for his wife.
This will definitely satisfy video game and horror movie fans thirst for a decent film!

The King of Fighters (2010)
Live-action feature based on the video game “King of Fighters”.
My review… WTF. I mean seriously, WHAT THE FUCK?!? This is the lamest/shittiest fighting game adaptation ever!
This is so bad it makes Tekken (2010) look good.
They completely massacred the story… the costumes were off/not true to the game… and the fight scenes were so badly choreographed… man even the “effects” sucked, just like Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers (1993).
Maggie Q leads the cast as Mai Shiranui (the bouncing boob babe of the pixel age). And playing the villain is Ray Park, best known as Darth Maul. None of these two have the star power/fighting skills to save this film… Utter crap.
The people responsible for this disgrace, should be dragged to the streets and beaten to death with an ugly stick.
Avoid this movie if possible. They say curiosity killed the cat… prepare to die.

eXistenZ (1999)
A game designer on the run from assassins must play her latest virtual reality creation with a marketing trainee to determine if the game has been damaged.
Another grotesque masterpiece by the King of Venereal Horror David Cronenberg. This was one of those “jack into the machine” type of movies. Just like the recent hit Inception (2010) where our heroes jack into dreams. And also like The Matrix (1999), where they jack into a fake world. This movie jacks you into a game, and it’s not like Gamer (2009) where they jack in via computer/interactive link.
In true Cronenberg form, this was more “organic” and darker than your typical alternate world. The use of creatures and bizarre machines that could be called “gross” in appearance.
A couple of familiar faces bring talent to the table, like the “never fails to impress” Jennifer Jason Leigh and former up-and-comer turned mainstay star Jude Law. and a young(er) Willem Dafoe, possibly less creepy lookin’.
Great and creepy execution of escapism of reality and when boarders are crossed between fantasy and fact.
Director David Cronenberg, is well known for his bizarre and “mind f*ck” films. I highly recommend you watch his movies from Scanners (1981) to his most recent work Eastern Promises (2007). I cannot wait for his next release, A Dangerous Method (2011).

The King of Kong (2007)
Diehard video game fans compete to break World Records on classic arcade games.
This movie Kicks Ass!! You can cut the tension with a knife kind of rivalry. Not the best cinematography, but very very entertaining!!! At some point i thought this film was fake, due to the extremes these people go to win at video games. One character really made think twice, “are there really douche bags like that on this planet?”. Apparently so, because this film is ALL TRUE. It’s a semi documentary-slash-drama. ENJOY!
