  1. Alien vs. Ninja (2010)

In ancient Japan, the fiercest ninjas of the Iga clan face their toughest enemies - and they aren’t from this planet!

A Japanese comedy sci-fi horror. Ultra low-budget but manages to entertain shallow audiences. With effects, acting and a story that would safely be called “B”.

This looked like a TV show… a cheap one. The “alien” was a dinosaur looking rubber suit lol

This is basically Predator (1987), but instead of gung-ho buffed soldiers we have ninjas! A mediocre story aided by some childish humor. Childish? The alien gestures he wanted “boobies”. If anything, the babe ninja kept my attention.

Expect the usual from the gore action comedies from Japan, this one is at the bottom of the barrel though. Funny for… 13 year olds.

  2. Mutant Girls Squad (2010)

Rin, a sixteen-year-old mutant girl who meets a gang of rebel mutants led by a transvestite samurai named Kisaragi, who is bent on restoring the Hiruko clan’s place in the world.

Heads split open and guts all over the floor. What more could you expect from directors: Yoshihiro Nishimura of Tôkyô zankoku keisatsu (2008) aka Tokyo Gore Polic & Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl (2009) And Noboru Iguchi of The Machine Girl (2008) & RoboGeisha (2009).

Every time i see the name Tak Sakaguchi, i know what i’m gonna get. Crazy action horror, with comedy. He killed in Versus (2000), thrilled at Battlefield Baseball (2003) and spilled more blood in Shinobi (2005). Now he plays a transvestite, excellent. The guy does have a sense of humor.

The babes were pretty good. The effects were better. The story was surprisingly “ok” and not too messed up to follow. The gore was spectacular! And the weaponry was ridiculously entertaining. If you’d follow me long enough you’d know, this is My kind of film.

Violent and funny!!! A genre that can be considered/called an Asian treasure.

  3. Gantz (2011)

After trying to rescue a man on the subway tracks, two teens wake up in a room dominated by a mysterious black sphere that sends them to hunt down and kill aliens hiding on Earth.

Based on the Manga by Hiroya Oku. Which was made into a TV series Gantz (2004) and is now brought to the big screen with this live action adaptation.

Starring one of my new favorite actors Kenichi Matsuyama, better known as “L” of the Death Note Saga. Fans should also check out his performance in Detroit Metal City (2008).

Note: I have not read the manga nor have i followed the tv show.

From what i saw I thought this was a decent film. I was entertained by the story, the action and the unexpected violence. The CGI, costumes and prop work was not that bad. The creatures/aliens were pretty cool (quirky), at some point it reminded me of some video games, even though effects were standard (looking).

Might not be everyone’s cup-o-tea, and i don’t know if it stays true to the original material. I like these manga/anime-ish type of films. And i can’t wait to see them step it up in Gantz: Part II (2011).

    Made in Japan.

  4. RoboGeisha (2009)

Yoshie, the younger and ill-treated sister of a renowned Geisha, is discovered to have natural strength and fighting ability. She’s recruited into an army of Geisha assassins by the rich and powerful owner of a steel-works, Kageno. Yoshie soon realizes that Kagenos real plan, she sets out to stop him and his Tengu warriors.

Tempura in your eye! Over the top entertainment courtesy of Japan. From the twisted and demented minds that gave us The Machine Girl (2008).

So bad it’s good… Typical CGI (cheap) tv quality special effects and cardboard sets. It’s the inventiveness and humor which attracts viewers.

This film went way past the stratosphere! Expect ridiculousness like: Her lower half turns into a tank, a palace turns to giant robot (man in suit), Breast milk from hell, crazy nurse in the forest and at the end the bad guy is wrapped in cheap christmas lights.

There was so much blood! cuts, stabs, slices, bleeding butts… even the fucking buildings bleed!!!

Truly a horrific comedy! This one’s for the bored and in the mood for a few laughs. But wasn’t as good as The Machine Girl (2008).

    Only in Japan.

  5. Survive Style 5+ (2004)

A man continually trying and failing to get his wife to stay dead; a self-absorbed ad agency creative director who comes up with one unworkably inane idea after another; a Brittish hitman who only wants to know everyone’s function in life; and an unfortunate office worker and father whose brain is left scrambled after a stage hypnotist is murdered in mid-performance.

A trippy collage of stories and vibrant visuals. Multiple quirky/crazy characters worlds collide revealing the connections piece by piece. A little bit like Snatch. (2000) & Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998). Probably because of the presence of hitman Vinnie Jones.

Tadanobu Asano aka Kakihara in Ichi the Killer (2001), is the lead of this bizarre drama. Reika Hashimoto is his gorgeous wife who just won’t die. She looked good in all her scenes. Their relationship battle was quite entertaining, adding some action sequences and eye candy to the romance.

The chicken man! he was definitely one for the books.

This may seem confusing at the beginning because of all the characters, that’s normal in this type of film. Have no fear, it will unravel… eventually.

This was trippy and bizarrely entertaining! And I really liked the soundtrack.

And speaking of trippy, this was suggested to me while i was viewing it. Great minds think alike gayagayaputomaya.

    “What’s your function in life?”
