Chronicle (2012)
Three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to their developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over.
Origins: Good and Evil collide!!! Sparked by angst, abuse and power!
I honestly thought it was gonna be a big budget Hollywood B.S. flick…
What a thrilling surprise it was to catch this little film, about great power and responsibility. I mocked the idea at first… the final product got my respect.
The new boys! “still waters run deep” Andrew (Dane DeHaan), “Best dude” Matt (Alex Russell) and “Mr. President” Steve (Michael B. Jordan) fly high and touch the sky. An impressive starring debut for the 3 gentlemen. I had my initial doubts and worries, In the end they did the job well.
Written & Directed by relative unknowns, this superpower film kicked ass! in more ways than one. BUT… you know you’ve seen this before… Tweaked a bit and reoriented for the American market… Akira (1988) - TELL ME I’M NOT RIGHT? I DARE YOU.
Sci-fi, action, adventure, fantasy and drama!!! What a mouthful.
Bullied boys and Cool kids, let evil and good brood. The roots of madness and kindness are captured by the buddy trio and their fantastic journey within themselves. We all want powers! Jealousy got the best of me… damn.
The “captured footage” angle has been drawn out and so has the “superpower” genre. How did this film kickass? Good writing and directing. The visual effects were neat and the action (in the end) was epic! Akira!
Not a shaky as some would think. Clean edits between different video recorders and security cams remind people that this is a “fun film”.
They’re sold me my own dream - it’s been a while since i’ve felt this way about a film. Especially one that i initially dissed/mocked (without proof). I am now a believer, no longer a doubter.
Sometime y’gotta give a film a chance, it may surprise you - with its inner strength.

Life Cycles (2010)
Story of the bike, from its creation to its demise.
Love bikes? Then you will fuckin’ love this!
Derek Frankowski and Ryan Gibb present a visual feast accompanied by high flying, ground ripping antics.
A simple story presented with style, and a narrator. Yeah, there really isn’t a story… BUT the shit you will see is mesmerizing.
The fields scene was by far the BEST one of them all. I caught this at a friends place and grabbed a copy after a few minutes of viewing. It’s zen!
I’d call it a WIN for bike fans, but as a movie fan i’d say it was just OK.
CLICK the image the trailer! it’s beautiful.

The Last Lions (2011)
Fifty years ago there were close to half-a-million lions in Africa. Today there are around 20,000. To make matters worse, lions, unlike elephants, which are far more numerous, have virtually no protection under government mandate or through international accords.
A story of a lioness and her cubs narrated by Jeremy Irons. WOW! touching and gripping at the same time. National Geographic delivers the goods once again.
Wonder, pity, and awe are the general emotions poked at by this amazing story. A visual treat done by husband and wife team Dereck and Beverly Joubert. Those shots were great! how did they get so near those climactic scenes?!?
And the “characters” - like out of the Lion King cartoon! A scarred buffalo, the silver eye lioness and her troupe. Spectacular storytelling skills. The violence of/in nature never fails to amaze.
Fun to watch and an eye opener for those who do not know the current situation of the Earths animal population. Life… the tragedy and triumph.

Fuck (2005)
A documentary on the expletive’s origin, why it offends some people so deeply, and what can be gained from its use.
With a title like THAT who wouldn’t be fucking curious?!? This is just really Fucking brilliant!
The most contro-fuckin-versial “word” in the spotlight. Culture, pshychology and humor about the most fucked up word.
It’s all about Free Fucking Speech. Obscene? It’s part of human fucking life, don’t you fucking get it? Comedians, actors, pornstars and linguistic experts give us the low down on the F word.
It all starts at home… Entertainment - They can fucking do what every it is they wanna fucking do. The Church - Need i fucking say more? The media - Where else would we fucking learn curse words and shit? and the FCC? FUCK the FCC! The Government - fuck the government!
Regulatory Boards and Censors are all assholes.
This has got some great fuckin’ stuff that will open up minds (adults and children alike) and give people a proper view on the fucking word “FUCK”. It ain’t so fucking bad folks.
It’s got fuckers like: Drew Carey, Billy Connolly, George Carlin, Bill Maher, Chuck D., Ice-T, Janeane Garofalo, Kevin Smith, Ron Jeremy and a lot more. telling us about their fucking take on this fucking issue.
Meet the Fockers (2004) = proof of desensitization. Comedy has come a long way, and will continue pushing the limits and challenge cultural moral standards all in the name of free speech. Fuck it!
If you think the word “fuck” is bad, then FUCK YOU!

Hot Coffee (2011)
The McDonald’s coffee case has been routinely cited by the media as an example of how citizens have taken advantage of the legal system. We will show how this case became so popular in the media, who funded the effort and to what end. We will tell the truth and let the audience decide if spilling hot coffee is really as profitable as they might otherwise believe.
“The story of the old lady who sued McDonald’s and won millions” - What the fuck is this stupidity?!? NOW i know the TRUTH. I’m the stupid one…
Interviews, newscast clips, experts and victims telling their side. The coffee lady DESERVED the cash. Sometimes the stories you hear/read/see aren’t what they seem. There is more truth in the truth.
Lawsuit Lottery and Accountability.
A bundle of political insights talking about: Tort, Caps, Arbitration and a laundry list of issues. Money makes the world go round - once again. The judiciary process is disrupted, shuffled and played with by men with
The story of “average joe” versus companies, doctors and corporations. A judicial and political mambo drama brought to us by HBO.

Superheroes (2011)
A journey inside the world of real life caped crusaders. From all over America, these self-proclaimed crime fighters, don masks, homemade costumes and elaborate utility belts in an attempt to bring justice to evildoers everywhere.
Vigilante justice at its… finest? A charismatic drunk, an awkward geek, people with anger issues, pride and a thirst to take the wheel and drive… crime away!
A passionate few. The good and bad side of superhero life was balanced and presented in a respectable manner. Undeniably, Comic books have been a tremendous influence in all our lives. Some people have stepped up…
A nice little documentary about a chosen/destined few. The film looks at the coin from both sides. The one thing that upset me was the anticlimactic lives they live. They sure ain’t no Batman, but they try. The charitable essence of “making the world a better and safer place for all” was admirable.
This was good but could have been better. I expected actual crime fighting, but saw more of a character story. Impressive work, even without the razzle dazzle of action and high speed chases. This film’s got heart.
Real-Life Superheros are among us, and there are more born every minute… just look in the mirror. Let’s make the world a better place.
Some might call then losers, others call them heroes. Everyday people becoming extraordinary people.

American Grindhouse (2010)
This documentary explores the hidden history of the American Exploitation Film. The movie digs deep into this often overlooked category of U.S. cinema and unearths the shameless and occasionally shocking origins of this popular entertainment.
An education on pushing the limits and history of provocative films. Simply splendid! I loved everything in this, it’s the reason this blog exists today.
This became (somewhat) a part 2 to a recently reviewed flick Machete Maidens Unleashed (2010)- A fast moving odyssey into the subterranean world of the rarely explored province of Filipino genre filmmaking.
The two films filled “most” of the gaps, i’m hoping a European version “grindhouse documentary” comes out soon.
Personally i enjoyed Machete Maidens a lot more because of the social/historical relevance. American Grindhouse is the story of inception to the current state of “shocker”/exploitation films.
Entertaining and Informative. Let’s make a movie!

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold (2011)
A documentary about branding, advertising and product placement that is financed and made possible by brands, advertising and product placement.
Morgan Spurlock, Super Size Me (2004) ,is back with a vengeance this time hitting Hollywood and media marketing!
Edu-fuckin’-cational! Film makers should/will learn from this little expose on the industry. It’s a harsh reality of selling… out.
Mane ‘n Tail - fuck my dad loves that shit. For humans and animals, spectacular.
The big named corporations knew this was trouble at the Hollywood seas, and yet there were a few kind/trusting/willing to take a chance companies that held their own.
The film in itself is like a TV type docu/expose. Simple and straight to the point. The highlights are scattered throughout the film. The climax was a bit weak but the point was sent to audiences.
I really had a blast seeing the inner working of selling out. Having worked in mainstream media makes it even funnier. Fuckin’ sell outs.
DO NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU HEAR OR SEE - if told to you by others.

Comic Book: The Movie (2004)
A host of real-life celebrities - including Hugh Hefner, Stan Lee, and Kevin Smith - journey into the world of comic book fandom! Documentary filmmaker Donald Swan heads to the world’s largest comic book convention where he encounters a culture of craziness that he’s totally unprepared for!
How timely! Perfect for the re-vamp/launch of our favorite DC characters…
Mark Hamill stars and directs this crazy/simple mockumentary. Comic books are a dirty business or not. You can feel the love for printed art. This was “for fans”.
There are cameos of writers, artists and celebs like Kevin Smith and Stan “The Man” Lee.
Visually, this wasn’t anything brilliant… neither was the script. But if you know comic history you’d see the bigger picture. We need “genuine” heroes!

Machete Maidens Unleashed (2010)
A fast moving odyssey into the subterranean world of the rarely explored province of Filipino genre filmmaking.
Factual, informative and entertaining! A history of… crazy “so bad it’s good” films. Follow the story of “why” such a phenomena had such a major impact on jungle action horror films of 60s-70s-80s. This was definitely a trip back in time.
The documentary features interviews with cult movie icons/legends Roger Corman, Joe Dante, John Landis, Sid Haig, Eddie Romero and a large assembly of cast, crew and critics.
I’ll let the documentary do the talking. If you like history and “so bad it’s good” films -> You will LOVE THIS.
*Stay TUNED, because next month i WILL BE showing this at my event: Phantasma Plasma!

Sonicsgate (2009)
Exposing the truth behind the Seattle SuperSonics’ tragic exodus after 41 years in the Emerald City.
The TRUTH exposed, for everyone to see!!! FUCK YOU Starbucks!
Great job by the sonicsgate.org group “Bring back our Sonics!!!”. A city loses a team another gains it… how? through FUCKED UP (dark/abusive/corrupt) BUSINESS.
The politics behind basketball is ridiculous, and just plain selfish. Basketball IS the fans, the people ARE basketball. This is a sad story of something loved leaving…
Kudos to Oklahoma City Thunder for doing well in the playoffs this year. We ain’t mad at you.
Goddamn, i miss the Sonics…
And in closing: CONGRATULATIONS to the 2011 NBA champs!!! the DALLAS MAVERICKS and for proving that: Championships are earned, NOT bought.

The Tunnel (2011) aka The Tunnel Movie
An investigation into a government cover-up leads to a network of abandoned train tunnels deep beneath the heart of Sydney. As a journalist and her crew hunt for the story it quickly becomes clear the story is hunting them.
All biases aside… This film was directed by a friend, former teammate and fellow actor Carlo Ledesma. Popularly known as one of the hosts of the tv sports show Gameplan. This was a good Aussie horror flick, he truly deserved the title Best Australian Director at this year’s A Night Of Horror Awards.
In the past, i’ve mentioned my initial “doubts” when i see “Country: Australia” - i have have more misses than hits from down under. And i can mention a handful of decent horror flicks. I’m not one of those people who dislike the “accent”, it’s the style/quality of filming that bothers me.
A found footage story told by the survivors… presented in a nice and very professional way. Which may have been the two weak points of this film. Four people go in… two tell the tale, so you pretty much know what’s gonna go down. A little too clean, it didn’t have that gritty/rough texture as found in most found footage horrors.
The story was somewhat like/reminded me of my 1st date with Guillermo del Toro - Mimic (1997) - remember that one? with the bug creatures living in the tunnels/sewers. And my theory on the creature… The Descent (2005)? maybe.
Despite my critique, i was pleased to say “i got shocked” (my heart skipped a beat). There were a few jumps and scares, through the claustrophobic caverns. The opening sequence paved the way for what to expect visually, the twists were simple and executed very well. And i thought the slow pace was just right for this kind of docu-horror.
The acting was far more than i had expected (a step up from most). Believable fear and decent dialogue throughout. The props and locations were superb. And the government conspiracy bits were much appreciated as well. The creatures/beings were mysterious and creepy enough to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand.
This film impressed me, the monumental 135K project is the next step/phase/marriage of cinema and the internet. The film was funded by the viewers/audiences, the producers sold frames and tied up with torrent sites. The Tunnel is available for FREE! (as of yesterday) http://www.thetunnelmovie.net/
It may not be a new story but it is holds the torch of Australian cinema. Monumental.
This film embodies “Passion for Film”, an original route to funding followed by a well produced product. A movie worth seeing! One of the good Aussie horrors.

I Know What I Saw (2009)
Director, James Fox assembled the most credible UFO witnesses from around the world to testify at The National Press Club in Washington D.C.: Air Force Generals, astronauts, military and commercial pilots, government and FAA officials from seven countries tell stories that, as Governor Fife Symington from Arizona stated, “will challenge your reality”.
Just what the scientists ordered! Honest to goodness (reliable/credible) accounts of U.F.O. sightings. There is a mystery not being investigated, why?
How long can governments of the world beat around the bush? “I believe in aliens!”
This film still leaves you with questions in the end. But manages to crack the door of possibility slightly ajar. It would be arrogant for man to think the entire universe was made for him. Think about it 99.99999% is uninhabitable for humans. Kindly leave your self righteous religion out the door, we are talking facts.
Are we the descendant of aliens? the possibility is not far fetched. History and the timeline of progress/evolution has hints of “influence” by superior beings. And yes, aliens may have been mistaken for angels… For now, we watch the skies.

Re-Cut (2010)
Following the discovery of the murder of two twin girls in their family’s barn, a former reality TV-star is dispatched by a TV-news station to uncover the mystery behind their gruesome deaths.
Based on actual footage??? again. Two dudes and a reporter decide to investigate the murders of Twins.
For a 1st film, this wasn’t that bad. Lighting was good and so were some shots. Professional looking as compared to most B-grade “docu” horrors. Handheld shots that transition with torture scenes.
BUT… it’s the same shit… investigate… build up the myth… do what they told you not to do… and suffer the consequences or curiosity. Judgement day is nigh.
And in the end… “There’s one more” - Oooooh, a mystery. Bet you it’s the cop.
The deaths were weak and safe… boo! Intriguing poster, mediocre indie.
