  1. Hostel: Part III (2011)

While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are enticed by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip. Once there, they are horrified to find themselves the subjects of a perverse game of torture, where members of the Elite Hunting Club are hosting the most sadistic show in town.

    Weak.

NOT directed by Eli Roth… oh boy… straight to video…

Killing in sin city - the grimy foreign “hostel” fear has gone out the window. The story nothing new, the acting was mediocre and the gore was unsatisfying and tame. What the hell happened here?

Another example of “let it go”. The fun, excitement and anxiety is lost in this TURD attempt at shock-torture-horror. What did you expect?

I’d avoid this if i knew what was in store for me… But i DO LIKE Hostel (And Eli Roth). Call me a sucker for violence and gore.

  2. Pig (2010)

A deranged psychotic spends his summer day deciding how to deal with the three captives he has chained up on his land. With only his own troubled mind and his dim-witted companion available to guide him and the fate of his victims, the disturbed man makes violent choice after violent choice. No one is safe and no taboo is left unbroken.

It’s all Andrew Howard!!! The guys can pull off “crazy” like no other. He was superb in Limitless (2011) - crazy Russian.

Director Adam Mason delivers a non-stop slaughterfest. Praised by many horror sites and critics. I first saw Broken (2006) and was not that impressed, it was ok.

As Advertized! It is what it is… we follow a madman and his little girl “partner” torture a few innocent folk. Utilizing some 1 take shots, i believe the film was a total of 3. What impressed me was the straight out acting, the director should get .5 praise. His cast drove this for him.

Click on the photo and check out the 1st few minutes of the film… it’s like that all the way… senseless violence…

  3. Mutant Girls Squad (2010)

Rin, a sixteen-year-old mutant girl who meets a gang of rebel mutants led by a transvestite samurai named Kisaragi, who is bent on restoring the Hiruko clan’s place in the world.

Heads split open and guts all over the floor. What more could you expect from directors: Yoshihiro Nishimura of Tôkyô zankoku keisatsu (2008) aka Tokyo Gore Polic & Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl (2009) And Noboru Iguchi of The Machine Girl (2008) & RoboGeisha (2009).

Every time i see the name Tak Sakaguchi, i know what i’m gonna get. Crazy action horror, with comedy. He killed in Versus (2000), thrilled at Battlefield Baseball (2003) and spilled more blood in Shinobi (2005). Now he plays a transvestite, excellent. The guy does have a sense of humor.

The babes were pretty good. The effects were better. The story was surprisingly “ok” and not too messed up to follow. The gore was spectacular! And the weaponry was ridiculously entertaining. If you’d follow me long enough you’d know, this is My kind of film.

Check out these films as well:

    Oneechanbara: Zombie Bikini Squad (2008)

    Meatball Machine (2005)

The Big Tits Dragon (2010) aka Kyonyû doragon: Hot Spring Zombies vs Strippers 5

Violent and funny!!! A genre that can be considered/called an Asian treasure.

  4. With Blood on My Hands: Pusher II (2004)

Tonny is released from prison - again. This time he has his mind set on changing his broken down life, but that is easier said than done.

Part 2 of the Pusher Trilogy by writer/director Nicolas Winding Refn.

Valhalla Rising (2009) badass “One Eye”- Mads Mikkelsen gets his ass royally handed to him a baseball bat in the 1st, and returns as the lead in this sequel. This time around, his character Tonny learns a little more about responsibility.

A fuck-up druggie gets out of prison and finds out he has a kid. The other half of the story is about him attempting to “fix” things between him and his employers/friends. “Prove his worth” - the guy just fucks things up. And yes, he does get revenge!

This felt/looked very much like Bronson (2008). I really liked this one more than the 1st. It was visually better, not as grimy as the original (lighting) and the story/character was much more interesting.

    RESPECT.

  5. F (2010)

A group of teachers must defend themselves from a gang of murderous kids when their school comes under siege after hours.

Teachers beware! of vengeful students… and this film. A run and survive UK thriller.

Damn these high hopes… This turned out to be cheap scares that jump at you… surprising trivial moments. Boo! got ya. Add the mediocre acting and predictable dialogue… sigh. The filming was probably the only really good thing about this. I was curious how this would play out, and it came off as dumb and boring.

The dad and teachers are people i would never root for. And the security guards were silly. The killers, in hoodies, were not as frightening as i’d thought they’d be.

Seemed like forever before hitting the 1st 30 minutes. The pacing is horrible, it was so slow. And then we see “the hooded villains”, dropping from the ceiling and shadows. Thankfully there was some mutilation shown, which kept my interest. But then the “kill” scenes were amateurish. Basically it’s a no win situation for this film…

This would make for a good tv movie, or a commendable indie. I just thought the poster/photo (i found) yelled “false advertising”. It’s a typical UK horror.

I give it an “F”, fuck.

  6. 30 Days of Night: Dark Days (2010)

After surviving the incidents in Barrow, Alaska, Stella Olemaun relocates to Los Angeles, where she intentionally attracts the attention of the local vampire population in order to avenge the death of her husband, Eben.

A straight to DVD sequel that fans of the comic book will enjoy! FYI: 30 Days of Night is a series of stories and the 1st movie only dealt with the Barrow story. Negative comments have come out about the budget and change of actors, but nobody ever mentions how “true” it is to the comic book. I LOVE 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: the comics and the movie.

I admit they milked the short story “dark Days”, but it has some goodies to offer viewers. This sequel has the violence, chills and scares that its much superior predecessor had. I really enjoyed this follow up, it’s just as i imagined the comic as i read it. There were some memorable death scenes that made me think out aloud “fuck yeah”.

And being true to the comic they even included the vampire-hunter vampire Dane!

    T. V. actress Kiele Sanchez plays the main character Stella Olemaun. I think choosing her as the new Stella was a good thing, she really looked like the drawing in the comic book. Unlike Melissa George in 30 Days of Night (2007) who was… too pretty.

“I love lesbians” Mia Kirshner from The L Word (2004) plays the vampire queen Lilith. An essential character in the 30 Days series of stories, It was her character who sent the vampire mob to Alaska in the first place (A detail non-fans would not be aware of, had this film not have explained it).

The bad stuff about this film (as mentioned by my co-viewers) was the use of really cheap/inconsistent “blood” effects, yes it is very “B” and yet better than most vamp flicks to have come out this year. Another complaint was how the vampires appearance looked like “sharks”, again non-fans cannot appreciate how close the costumes, eyes and teeth were to how Ben Templesmith drew the comic book.

Steve Niles is a great writer! He’s made his own Vamp-world/mythology and which stretches further than than most people had thought. I’d love to see the “sniper” side story made into a short film.

So did I like this film? YES. Will you? MAYBE.

  7. Colin (2008)

Our hero Colin is bitten by a Zombie; he dies and returns from the dead. We follow him as he wanders through suburbia during the throes of a cadaverous apocalypse.

An astonishing indie look into Z-day. Written, edited, directed and produced by Marc Price. Filmed with the tiniest budget ever. And yet delivering a pretty good story.

Eerie and scary enough to beat some popular titles. A lot of chaotic scenes that may even be made as they went. It’s got a “real” vibe to it plus dramatic sequences.

Pretty good zombie indie, with a classic look.

  8. Burning Bright (2010)

A thriller centered on a young woman and her autistic little brother who are trapped in a house with a ravenous tiger during a hurricane.

What can i say? Read the plot. This was a terrorizing funny flick everyone can enjoy. Something that will definitely frighten our moms.

The fear was definitely there… It made me remember what Del Preston said in Wayne’s World 2 (1993):

So there’s me, and Keith Moon, and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweets shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they’ve got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shopowner and his son… that’s a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes.”

Briana Evigan was pretty good in this household thriller. She first caught my attention in a TV show about Z-day Fear Itself: New Year’s Day (2008), written by Steve Niles of 30 Days of Night (2007), and later made a comeback to the horror genre in Sorority Row (2009). So far so good.

Warning though, the little kid gets pretty freakin’ annoying.

This movie is just ridiculous… and yet… kinda fun.

  9. My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done (2009)

Inspired by a true crime, a man begins to experience mystifying events that lead him to slay his mother with a sword.

Listen to the voice in your head. I was finally able to get a screener copy of this, creepy look into a man’s twisted mind. Michael Shannon delivers an amazing performance in this psychological-crime thriller.

Supporting Shannon is a group of fairly creepy looking individuals. Willem Dafoe plays the police officer who digs into the root of all this madness. Udo Kier as the director/mentor of the disturbed man, who may have taken his role in the play too seriously. And Chloë Sevigny adds another “odd face” to the cast.

A steady paced film with some “idly standing around” dramatic shots and hypnotic background music. This was quite good.

The texture of the film is something you’d see in an after lunch tv movie. Real life drama at it’s best, and beautifully delivered with no need for gore or on-screen violence.

Executive producer David Lynch presents another disturbing film. Disturbing in a “real” way (not the usual Lynch “WTF just happened?” mind-fuck), this can/may/is happening somewhere in the world as you read this review right now.

  10. Srpski film (2010) aka A Serbian Film

A former porn star accepts a role of a lifetime, not realizing that the director has murderous intentions.

A horror about crossing the line between snuff and porn!

This was brutal and sick! I must say this movie was wonderfully executed, as compared to other wanna be snuff-murder-gore films. Like one of my recent reviews August Underground’s Mordum (2001) which was just plain sick and tacky. An example of a successful movie based on snuff films is 8mm (1999), but it lacked the brutality of the genre.

This movie actually had nice cinematography and twisted turns that can compete with the best of the genre, like Hostel (2005). A lot of the scenarios/imagery may be very offensive/disgusting, definitely not for the weak viewers.

Very disturbing and visually shocking, this will definitely go head-to-head against The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009) as the sickest movie to be released in the last year. There’s a lot of sex… and violence to go with it. The special effects were quite good, fairly decent prosthetic work.

Daring, offensive, Insane, despicable and done in a way some Hollywood horror films could learn from. The brutality and sickness keeps escalating to the very end!

This movie brings new meaning to the words “skull f*ck”.

Thanks to zyruhhmodena for suggesting this awesome twisted indulgence.

  11. August Underground’s Mordum (2001)

Two serial killers go on a murdering rampage as one films the outcome from behind a video camera. One of the most realistically portrayed simulated snuff films.

This is probably something I would’ve enjoyed during my “dark angsty-teen” years. I wasn’t too happy about “the film”… (extremely amateurish and close to degrading type porn) but the effort in portraying believable deaths were so much better then it’s predecessors like: Cannibal Holocaust (1980).

So there isn’t really anything but kill kill kill, stab stab stab, rape rape rape all captured with a handy-cam. Very violent and graphic. You also have the “killers” who look like depraved youths seeking fun in massacring innocent bystanders (it seemed too random). And these characters were just… insane/cracked out/degenerates of society.

Tagged as “The sickest film ever made”, the producers dare you to watch. A lot of mixed reviews on the stupidity/no talent vs quality/substance of this movie. The question is if you can handle it?

On a personal note: I think it was a bad choice on my part, to view this before going to bed last night. It really had nothing to offer but violence.

priestpoetandthepig replied to your photo: August Underground’s Mordum (2001) Two serial…

August Underground is shit. If it looks like shit and smells like shit, then it must be shit. Nothing but gimmick “torture porn” nonsense. The 70s and video nasties done it better 20 years ago.

lol YEAH, there is NO story at all and it does look, smells, sounds like shit. It is shit, but without the shit, we can never appreciate crap (tolerable to some degree films). Someone’s gotta watch these flicks… (i’m glad to know i’m not the only one’s who’s seen this so called Art-Gore “film”)

  12. Martyrs (2008)

A young woman’s quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.

I was surprised to see this posted on TUMBLR the other day. I couldn’t agree more with the comments that accompanied the post. And so, i searched my archive for my own post. WTF, i didn’t post anything about it, then it hit me. “i wasn’t on TUMBLR yet when i watched this film.” So i HAD to revisit this spectacularly brutal horror!

This is an amazing tale of revenge, pain, hurt, suffering and violence. Both girls were amazing in portraying the roles of the “victims”. Production-wise it was better than most French films and the story… the story… brutal in biblical proportions!

For some viewers this may seem like a gore-fest, but it is not. The movie dwells on the subject matter of “suffering = holyness”. Quite shocking really. Most people who had seen it say “It’s gross”… i disagree. The deeper message of the film overpowers the violence depicted in the film.

This is “for me” is the best artsy/horror/slasher/gore film of 2008! And revisiting it gives me pleasure, thank you TUMBLR.

  13. Skjult (2009) Aka Hidden

Painful memories arise when Kai Koss goes back to his childhood home after 19 years and inherits his dead mother’s house.

This Norwegian suspense-horror was a total hack and slash type movie. Not a high body count but a pretty decent one. The characters seemed interesting and the start was slow paced. I thought things were gonna get better as the film progressed, but like all movies like this, it was predictable. I don’t think i’m gonna be watching this again, anytime soon.
