Shame (2011)
Brandon is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.
A Marvelous display of skin and sin! Directed by Steve McQueen (III) - and shot in 25 days.
The acting was truly admirable, and so were the impromptu one-shot takes. Michael Fassbender was AWESOME! His star is growing bigger and brighter every time he graces the screen. And to do what he did here… Solid!
His sister, played by, Carey Mulligan was terrific! Troubled chicks turn me on (gentlemen? we prey on the weak). Strength and weakness. The balance of sanity versus desire is toppled when she steps in. The siblings share an odd relationship…
TRIVIA: The scene where Brandon hears his sister sing in the restaurant was shot in real time. James Badge Dale and Michael Fassbender had never heard Carey Mulligan sing before so their reactions were real. The scene was shot at 3 a.m in the morning with cameras focused on all 3 performers at the same time.
The performance of “New York, New York” was amusing and set the tone perfectly. Sultry and somber at the same time.
*Why did i chose to use THIS POSTER? It says a lot about the film. Ichi the Killer (2001) anyone? Sperm.
Slow and drawn out to the very end. It’s all about sex and the relationship between siblings and unmentionables. Threesome?!? Yes please.
Some have mentioned that “nothing really happens in the film”- i beg to differ. Discouraged by life’s many problems, some of us find solace and comfort in the arms of others. Especially when they trigger arousal or a temporary escape from their mediocre/boring lives. Sex is FUN! And it can also be destructive, never underestimate the power of Lust.
Dialogue? as the saying goes actions (film/photos) speak a thousand words. The movie draws empathy from it’s viewers and radiates moral decisions we all make for ourselves as individuals.
Produced well and possibly an award winner. This controversial flick will definitely come across fire from both sexually open and closed individuals. The battle of content begins! The “scenes” were great!
It’s a mindgame, played exclusively by our leading man. We join him on a journey of discovery and acceptance of desires. Not the film you thought it’d be?
Shame on… who?

What’s Your Number (2011)
A woman looks back at the past twenty men she’s had relationships with in her life and wonders if one of them might be her one true love.
A romantic comedy based on the novel “20 Times a Lady” by Karyn Bosnak.
Anna Faris is back with some laughs and sexiness. It’s an adult relationship comedy with some “laughable” realities some of us have faced. Douchebags, bitches and those in-between.
OH, The men in her life! Joel McHale, Zachary Quinto and Chris Pratt play a few of the questionable male specimen douches in this flick. BUT Andy Samberg takes the cake! That “face”. Hilarious every time!
Leading man Chris Evans brings his swagger and comedic stylings once again. The man is a comedian, no doubt about it. He can sell funny, even in a serious role. He looks friendly, and maybe that’s the hook.
Pleasant, funny and light. Not bad for a film like many others. Predictable and yet entertaining. Moms and girls will like this, dunno about grandma…
It’s a dumb movie. This could have been a “fail” but the strong cast and clean flow helped this be an “ok” in my books. Anna Faris has always made me happy in my pants.

We Need To Talk About Kevin (2011)
The mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree tries to deal with her grief - and feelings of responsibility for her child’s actions.
Based on the novel by Lionel Shriver.
“Why would I not understand the context? I am the context.”
How to create a monster. A tremendous family drama, centered on maternal love and self destruction.
An absolutely engaging experience, visually and emotionally.
Tilda Swinton rocked the fuck outta this one! Portraying the frustrated mother who can’t seem to get things right. We see her life slowly sucked away by her antagonist son Kevin. A smart and cunning boy with grand plans.
Blind-as-a-bat husband John C. Reilly flexes his dramatic muscles. Blurring the lines of cause and effect in this suburban tragedy. The voice of reason… or is it?
KEVIN! was well performed and intriguing in all ages. Ezra Miller did a spectacular job as the teen. His eyes and demeanor was frightening and yet a glimmer of light shone through those dark eyes. His younger counterparts Jasper Newell and Rock Duer swung it home. Giving life to the troubled boy.
Jumps between infant, toddler, teen and current times might/may confuse some viewers at first. It will all become clear in the end. Hints and clues lead up to the heartbreaking reality.
The cinematography was be-a-u-ti-fucking-ful! And the script was compelling. The grand finale was one to remember. Depressingly gorgeous and whimsically dramatic.
Tough love.

Bellflower (2011)
Two friends spend all their free time building flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang “Mother Medusa”.
Directed, Written and Starring Evan Glodell. Bravo!
“Lord Humungus cannot be defied.” - Lord Humungus.
Woodrow and Aiden are best buds who love Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981). So much so, that they make their own flame-throwers and ride a modified “Mother Medusa” mobile. The apocalypse is nigh!
And then… the end begins… One falls madly in love with a quirky and fun blonde. The dynamic duos friendship is put to the test. Love is a BITCH.
TRIVIA: No functionality of the Medusa car was faked during filming. The real life the car is equipped with two flamethrowers, smoke screen, a bleach drift-kit, adjustable rear suspension, and 3 surveillance cameras; all controlled from the dashboard.
So why the love? This film hit my gut in a way i could never have imagined. A wicked apocalyptic journey with lessons on love and… Friendship - The key element in this fantastic indie fantasy.
I loved the car and the texture of the film. Gritty and gnarly. Badass, and yet carries a torch for romance and life.
Physical and Emotional devastation! The acting, script and overall production was superb. The use of words like “dude” and “awesome” made it easier for (me) audiences to relate to the content.
Women can be the end of all things men know. Portrayed in this film with violence and ruthlessness of love. The tattoo bit was harsh! Sometime we need to listen to our friends, they may just save us from impending doom.
“You are Lord Fucking Humongous: the Master of Fire, the King of the Wasteland.”
Imagine being trapped in a gray world between friendship and love. What would you choose?

50/50 (2011)
Inspired by a true story, a comedy centered on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease.
Inspirational! You can do it, don’t die… live… live! Liiiiive!
A funny take on life, death and love… nothing can get you through the bad times like a good friend. “I told you so!”
I had mixed emotions that ran from sad to happy. This had it’s fine moments, that would make people think about their own lives.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is our poor old hero facing the ultimate adventure… death. The always cotton mouth, Seth Rogen plays his reliable wingman. And Anna Kendrick is the ray of sunshine. While Bryce Dallas Howard was the bitch. Rogen and JGL made an awesome pair of average joes/goofs. Behind the humor there was truth.
TRIVIA: Joseph Gordon-Levitt actually shaved his head during filming. Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen were improvising in character while the cameras kept rolling since the scene was not in the script.
This was definitely one of those 2011 surprises. Romantic in a way but focus was on the battle versus cancer. - a fight close to home. And this film showed the brighter side of… hope.
Entertaining and based on the experience of the writer. It doesn’t get any personal than that. Love’s a bitch, and so is Life.

The Art Of Getting By (2011)
George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who’s made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, is befriended by Sally, a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.
Another ‘11 teen romance flick… The 1st full length feature of writer/director Gavin Wiesen. Another cliche teen drama…
Life, Love and the decisions we make for ourselves. Balancing grades and life ain’t that easy.
“Awkward” would best describe the relationship of our leads Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts. Cute but at times annoying and frustrating. WOAH! Alicia Silverstone as the wiser one! She’s back, but not as glamorous as you’d expect.
Red State (2011) Michael Angarano is a good actor. Can’t wait to see more of the (just smoked pot faced) dude.
The film felt dry at times, but had some stuff/lessons to offer audiences. I had low expectations coming in to this and i believe it’s the way this should be watched. And old story re-told again and again.
It was “ok”, nothing grand or mesmerizing. Maybe i’m getting old for these types of flicks? maybe.
Wise ass says: “Been there done that”

Our Idiot Brother (2011)
A comedy centered on an idealist who barges into the lives of his three sisters.
WILLIE NELSOOOOON!!!! As the saying goes “Nice guys finish…”
Naivety, honesty and good will towards - becomes the butt of the joke.
Those damn filthy hippies! Paul Rudd plays “the dude” aka “ghandi” aka “my bro” in the Rudd way we all know and love. That stupid face, it amazes and amuses.
The women… THE BABES! aka sisters Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, Zooey Deschanel and her main squeeze Rashida Jones = testes exploding!!! Cuties, lezzzbians and bitches surround our hapless hero. Let’s not forget the asshole, Steve Coogan. Who gives us a “peek” of his diamonds.
The story was a bit shallow, but had current cultural/situational relevance. Guys ad gals will like this. Not a “HAHA!” comedy… a pleasant one.
A film with good intentions morals and love for family. It’s got heart.
Laughs for mature audiences. We are all evil and have to be reminded of the simpler things in life. Love to live and live to love.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss (2007)
Broke and alone on New Year’s Eve, Wilson just wants to spend the rest of a very bad year in bed. But, when his best friend convinces him to post a personal ad, he meets a woman bent on finding the right guy to be with at midnight.
An indie film all about love! Great job by writer/director Alex Holdridge.
A date movie that everyone can easily relate to. The loneliness of celebrating New Years alone. Shot in black and white (romantic atmosphere), we follow a couple who “agree” to be in each others arms.
Sara Simmonds was crazy cute! We always remember those - don’t we gentlemen? And leading man Scoot McNairy carried the film quite well. Not the ideal pretty boy, but an honest man “in search of”. Hopes and dreams are displayed on screen with real emotion and honest storytelling.
We are all looking for that “true love” in our lives.
I was not at all disappointed with this modern “Love story”. Highs and lows come and go, we all survive the trials of relationships. And it is true that love can be found, with a bit of effort and understanding.
Love’s a bitch, but she can be surprise you once in a while. Much like this little indie film.
A beautiful film for hopeless romantics!

Cherry (2010)
An Ivy League freshman gets an unexpected education when he falls for an older woman and her 14 year-old daughter develops a crush on him.
Dysfunctional love triangle, without any age limit!
Written and directed by Jeffrey Fine. Well done sir, well done.
Breaking the parental shackles and following your dreams. A very nice coming of age story, with ups and downs.
Lucky guy Kyle Gallner is the man torn between two females. A performance worth noting. Mom Laura Allen seduced and partied hard. Definitely a MILF. And “oh not so young” Britt Robertson is the cherry on the cake. There was great chemistry between the entire cast.
Twisted wants versus the right thing to do and the risks we take with friendships.
A couple of giggles here and there… a film that makes you reflect and think. Love knows no age.
“Walk on water”
I thought this was a well rounded film… wasn’t exactly my type, but i appreciated the viewing. Something for mom and sis.

Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011)
A father’s life unravels while he deals with a marital crisis and tries to manage his relationship with his children.
Love… oh love…
Wholesome and funny! I expected this to be a typical romantic comedy, it its, and it turned out to be a funny one. This film tackled relationship issues all ages can relate to.
Comedy savant Steve Carell leads the pack as the sad bastard who has to pick up the pieces and is in desperate need of help. He was amazing as the counterpart of the ever so gorgeous Julianne Moore. Ryan Gosling rocked the suave bachelor role really well. Romantic comedy princess Emma Stone is blossoming by the day, another one for the books. “Poor guy” Kevin Bacon gets the short end of the ugly stick. WHAT??? Josh Groban? My oh my… Marisa Tomei as the crazy cute 8th grade english teacher. Lovely! in a psycho way. You never forget those…
A family friendly romantic flick with some snickers and goofs about camaraderie and parenting. Love is not easy. One of the best romantic comedies of 2011.

Sleeping Beauty (2011)
A haunting portrait of Lucy, a young university student drawn into a mysterious hidden world of unspoken desires.
I love you Julia Leigh, excellent debut.
Brave and uncompromising! Emily Browning in her most womanly role. Stripped down raw and pure, revealing everything. She looked like an angel! Gloriously gorgeous.
We follow a young woman who enters a institution wherein wealthy men pay for “special” services. Drugged and taken advantage of while in a deep slumber. Beauty sleeps to escape her dreadful reality. A rude awakening is not far away…
The bedroom scenes with the old men were creepy as hell. This is one of those “shockers” breaking the boundaries of sex. Simple and yet deep in essence. We must all keep in mind the true meaning of this Sleeping Beauty. Sleep is an escape, waking up is a nightmare.
This isn’t a mind bender. It’s simple and peeks into the life of a woman who finds herself in a tough spot.
The thought of a sexually explicit Sleeping Beauty enticed me to the bone. This film delivered the goods.

Everything Must Go (2010)
When an alcoholic relapses, causing him to lose his wife and his job, he holds a yard sale on his front lawn in an attempt to start over. A new neighbor might be the key to his return to form.
Based on the short story “Why Don’t You Dance” by Raymond Carver.
A somber and superb debut by writer/director Dan Rush. Dark and slightly comedic, stubborn people are the best to pick-on.
Shaken & Stirred Will Ferrell stumbles in life and loses everything, except his acting skills. The man oozes comedy, and reminds us he is a serious cookie. He made this dramedy work. His partner in crime, the young C.J. Wallace was impressive.
Add Stephen Root and Laura Dern as the (funny) masochistic neighbors. The friendly and concerned Rebecca Hall looked absolutely stunning, even with a belly. I’d hit that! She’s grown to be a “i can’t wait to see what she does next” actress.
TRIVIA: Christopher Jordan Wallace is the son of late rapper The Notorious B.I.G. and R&B singer Faith Evans.
In the end, it’s a story of letting go, accepting and moving on… The tragedies of our lives are indeed a bitter pill to swallow. Painful and eyeopening, trust no one.
Think before you drink!

I Love You, Man (2009)
Friendless Peter Klaven goes on a series of man-dates to find a Best Man for his wedding. But when his insta-bond with his new B.F.F. puts a strain on his relationship with his fiancée, can the trio learn to live happily ever after?
IN YOUR FACE!!! Oh man look what i found in an old cd case!?!?! Glorious!
Fuck yeah this was funny, and still is.
“Dude! Rush is greatest rock band of all time!”
Words cannot express how much this film made me feel good, and gave me that extra hop in my step. A chick flick for guys, literally. Perfect for a “man date”.
I loved all the goofy banter and drops like: Joben, bro Montana, Totes McGotes, Broseph Goebbels, Tycho Brohe and Latress on the menjay.
Paul Rudd is perfect as the hapless and friendless nice guy. He portrayed a kind of innocence like in The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005). Rashida Jones was smokin’ hot! Especially in the bedroom after the Rush concert *drools* Her girlfriends were MILFs! Jaime Pressly… i think i just came.
Funny man Jason Segel does it again! He played the “i don’t give a fuck” buddy so well. The man is a comedic savant.
Haven’t seen this chick flick for guys yet??? Grab a copy now!
Never forget: “Slapping the bass! Slappa da bass! Slappa da bass mon! Slappa de bass mon.”
This is one of THE BEST bromance films you’ll ever see!

Water for Elephants (2011)
A veterinary student abandons his studies after his parents are killed and joins a traveling circus as their vet.
Based on the novel by Sara Gruen.
Chuck Bass in Water for Elephants - oh it’s the twilight guy? Robert Pattinson, isn’t he the “bothered” guy? Who fucking cares… they’re both douchebags.
I threw aside my Pop culture hate for the circus! Freakin’ love carnies, you know circus folk… small hands… smell like cabbage. Grab some popcorn and prepare for the drama!
Reese Witherspoon has always delivered the goods, despite her bulldog jaw. The tights didn’t do it for me… Now lets get to the goods. The Inglorious one, Christoph Waltz gives us another evil badass performance, kind and hostile.
“Oh Water for Elephants… You had me at midget” - I wish there were more “freakshow” characters…
The life behind the scenes is not what you would think, as with all forms of entertainment - past and present. The audience is oblivious to all, much like citizens with their politics. A well rounded story and commendable performances by all, in front and behind the camera.
Another adaptation of literature comes to the screen. Constantine (2005) and I Am Legend (2007) director Francis Lawrence applies his “glossy” (pop) style to this tale of love, loss and life. Audiences can only hope he sticks to drama, fantasy, adventure genres. Horror and sci-fi didn’t quite work out for him.
This was a great film! Fun, exciting, suspenseful, horrific, dramatic and magnetic. A soft and yet glorious film. It’s good for the heart.
