  1. The Ides of March (2011)

An idealistic staffer for a newbie presidential candidate gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail.

Look at that cast!!! Should i go on?

A politician hides shit and his right hand finds out… and grows a fuckin’ conscience. Death before betrayal? or survival of the fittest?

Written, directed and starring George Clooney! A political drama with nerve. The face of politics will never be the same - it’s been that way for ages. People are starting to open their eyes.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti and Ryan Gosling. DAMN.

Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood. DAMN!

Trivia: The Ides of March was the day (March 15) that Julius Caesar was assassinated. In Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar” before being stabbed to death, Julius Caesar is told by a Soothsayer: “Beware the ides of March.”

A nice film with big stars and a story not too far from reality. Somethin’ for mature audiences and followers of political conspiracies.

We all have a conscience to deal with.

We will tell the truth and let the audience decide if spilling hot coffee is really as profitable as they might otherwise believe.

  3. Sonicsgate (2009)

Exposing the truth behind the Seattle SuperSonics’ tragic exodus after 41 years in the Emerald City.

The TRUTH exposed, for everyone to see!!! FUCK YOU Starbucks!

Great job by the sonicsgate.org group “Bring back our Sonics!!!”. A city loses a team another gains it… how? through FUCKED UP (dark/abusive/corrupt) BUSINESS.

The politics behind basketball is ridiculous, and just plain selfish. Basketball IS the fans, the people ARE basketball. This is a sad story of something loved leaving…

Kudos to Oklahoma City Thunder for doing well in the playoffs this year. We ain’t mad at you.

    Goddamn, i miss the Sonics…

And in closing: CONGRATULATIONS to the 2011 NBA champs!!! the DALLAS MAVERICKS and for proving that: Championships are earned, NOT bought.

  4. The Art of the Steal (2009)

Documentary that follows the struggle for control of Dr. Albert C. Barnes’ 25 billion dollar collection of modern and post-impressionist art.

    Wake up… Philadelphia!

It’s very simple, my last will and testament should be honored. If not… then FUCK YOU ASSHOLE!

Bias??? YES, for a good and legitimate reason… POLI-fucking-TICS. If you smell shit, there must be shit creeping around under someone’s foot. The story does not add up as far as the “crooked” side is concerned. The seesaw favors the unjust… and accompanied by a atrocious disregard of rights and red-tape mischief. How can someone not feel connected? Life is unfair.

High brow snooty butler fingering disgusting hypocrites, who’s utterly blind goal is to leave a significant mark on socially lavish cliques whom they think represent the entirety of mankind.

FUCK all that, because this… is… a movie about… PRINCIPLES and HONOR. A rare and relevant (though bias) political and social commentary. Cultures are lost just like religion becomes myth. Sad but inevitable, due to the constant change of society for the betterment of mankind and it’s future.

All biases aside, this was an in-depth peek into a tiny particle on the surface of the Earth. Significant in humanitarian ways but insignificant to the majority who walk this planet. Which is probably the main reason of this films existence. The relevance is situational, but the meaning and value is universal. Just look around you and think of this as a metaphor, for all the fucked up “political conspiracy” shit/mumbo jumbo/hype we see in the news paper everyday.

Probably not a film for everyone, some viewers may need to view this a few times to understand the economic/political information presented. Art is relevant, whether we appreciate it or not. It is the purest form of human historical recollection, straight from the artist, and uniquely significant moment when he created the artwork/painting. Capturing time, so to speak.

I love Albert Barnes, muthafuckin’ stubborn/admirable son of a bitch, and the principles he lived by. Honor and Pride have never been so true and upheld. He let his dog be his signatory… dastardly awesome! Respect his last will and testament. Do not let “the man” fuck it up.

Money is GOD. Stop denying the power, opportunity and influence it possesses in a world/society blinded by bling/swag. Look at the mirror and be honest, the world would be a better place.

It is disgusting how red tape and details can fuck everything up. Corruption knows no bounds. But it’s a reality we all seem to accept… “face down ass up, that’s the way we like to fuck”. An old story… isn’t it sad? Intriguing and upsetting at the same time.

Mo money, Mo problems - i statement i despise, but cannot dispute.

  5. V for Vendetta (2006)

A shadowy freedom fighter known only as “V” uses terrorist tactics to fight against his totalitarian society. Upon rescuing a girl from the secret police, he also finds his best chance at having an ally.

Words cannot express how much i loved this movie. Despite not being entirely true to the graphic novel, this political action flick has truly impressed me.

James McTeigue brought the characters to life and did so in such an entertaining way. It’s about the small things like, the well choreographed fight sequences and decision to keep “one” mask and play with shadows to add “emotions” to V. It was darkly beautiful and embodied the message (of Alan Moore) quite well.

It had a great cast! Hugo Weaving, dubbing performance was astounding! The man is a thespian. He had me at his “introduction”. Whimsical and yet frighteningly brutal and cunning, V is a freakin’ badass.

Natalie Portman received multiple acclaims for her performance. And received media notoriety by shaving her hair off. There was never a doubt about her acting skills.

Veteran John Hurt adds the sleaziness of political power, and dictates his control of the masses with gusto and authority. The rest of the cast were amazing as well, The UK stars came out and showed their acting swag. An almost perfect ensemble.

This film does have it’s holes and weaknesses, but the overall enjoyment and underlying issues are stupendous, and thought provoking. Leading some of us to think about our our countries political structure and adding some color to (currently) conspiracy theories.

TRIVIA: The original comic series was originally created by Alan Moore. However, following his negative experience with From Hell (2001) and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003), Moore decided to reject all money and credit from Hollywood on any adaptations of his work. Thus, he gave all the money he would’ve gotten to the artist who drew the character with him, and rejected his own “created by” credit from the film. And V’s cause was anarchy, not freedom.

“I am a god fearing man” says Roger Allam, which also connects current issues about separation of church and state. FEAR, is the enemy. Get over fear and win your freedom!

*And on a personal note, i think this is the best The Wachowski Brothers has presented. I love their films, but this had more to it. More so because i live in a country that overcame an infamous Martial Law dictatorship.

This is one of those films that definitely belongs in my Top 10 Comic Book Movies!

“Remember, remember the 5th of November.”

  6. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011)

A pre-Spartacus prequel about life in the House of Batiatus. In the opener, a younger Batiatus is placed in command of his father’s gladiator-training school, which leads him to use one of the most accomplished fighters to curry favor with a nobleman.

The gladiators are back! Ravishing ladies in waiting and blood thirsty brutes populate the iconic world/era. Kill or be killed, survival of the fittest socially/economically.

I’ve been twisting my knickers like a little girl (anxiously) waiting for this series! Lucy Lawless’ and the mighty Batiatus John Hannah play their hierarchical roles once again, but younger. The rise of a (novice gladiator) legend, Manu Bennett as Crixus!!! And a few more of our favorite heroes and villains from the 1st season.

Best wishes to Andy Whitfield, who’s still battling cancer. The show can’t be called “Spartacus” without Spartacus. Hopefully this prequel will give him the time to heal, so that he may return to the arena.

Gods of the Arena, revolves around the story of the original Champion of the House of Batiatus: Gannicus. Played by Aussie Dustin Clare. Lookin’ a bit like Achilles of Troy (2004) mixed with the humor of Leonidas from 300 (2006). One badass fighter… “ridiculously” good.

This show jumps at you from beginning… to end! This has everything fans loved from the 1st series: sex, violence, nudity, blood, gore and lesbian love! I LOVE THIS SHOW.

Great work by director Jesse Warn, who also did 3 episodes of Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010). I WANT MORE!!!

  7. State of Play (2009)

A team of investigative reporters work alongside a police detective to try to solve the murder of a congressman’s mistress.

A nice political mystery. Russel Crowe is smooth as silk as the investigative reporter, Rachel McAdams takes on a serious role as the novice under “the crowe’s” wing and Ben Afleck is his douche self once again. Very well delivered and produced quite well. The twist… well, let’s just say i watch too many films that some twist don’t surprise me anymore.

This film made me want to be a reporter, again. Not that i want to stick my nose where it doesn’t belong… simply to “unearth the truth” without compromise or bias.

Not what i expected, but a pretty good film. Your dad will love it!
