  1. Chronicle (2012)

Three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to their developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over.

Origins: Good and Evil collide!!! Sparked by angst, abuse and power!

I honestly thought it was gonna be a big budget Hollywood B.S. flick…

What a thrilling surprise it was to catch this little film, about great power and responsibility. I mocked the idea at first… the final product got my respect.

The new boys! “still waters run deep” Andrew (Dane DeHaan), “Best dude” Matt (Alex Russell) and “Mr. President” Steve (Michael B. Jordan) fly high and touch the sky. An impressive starring debut for the 3 gentlemen. I had my initial doubts and worries, In the end they did the job well.

Written & Directed by relative unknowns, this superpower film kicked ass! in more ways than one. BUT… you know you’ve seen this before… Tweaked a bit and reoriented for the American market… Akira (1988) - TELL ME I’M NOT RIGHT? I DARE YOU.

Sci-fi, action, adventure, fantasy and drama!!! What a mouthful.

Bullied boys and Cool kids, let evil and good brood. The roots of madness and kindness are captured by the buddy trio and their fantastic journey within themselves. We all want powers! Jealousy got the best of me… damn.

The “captured footage” angle has been drawn out and so has the “superpower” genre. How did this film kickass? Good writing and directing. The visual effects were neat and the action (in the end) was epic! Akira!

Not a shaky as some would think. Clean edits between different video recorders and security cams remind people that this is a “fun film”.

They’re sold me my own dream - it’s been a while since i’ve felt this way about a film. Especially one that i initially dissed/mocked (without proof). I am now a believer, no longer a doubter.

Sometime y’gotta give a film a chance, it may surprise you - with its inner strength.

  2. Puncture (2011)

A David and Goliath law drama about a drug-addicted lawyer who takes on a health supply corporation while battling his own personal demons.

Based on a true story. - Weiss and Danzinger had been approached by an inventor having trouble selling a safety syringe due to a major industry needle maker and hospital group purchasing organizations pushing back against the introduction of the new, safer syringes.

A medical courtroom drama directed by Adam & Mark Kassen.

Our hero! Why so serious? Chris Evans, takes things to the next level. Reinventing himself as a dramatic actor, and doing it well. Had to shake off his comedic quirks outta my head. Evans is here! His partner Mark Kassen was the Yin to his Yang.

Drugs and law, the perfect combination when dealing with the crooked and deceitful opportunists. I was not expecting much from this film… this caught me off guard. The issue of “clean” needles is something we glance at and ignore. Well it’s on screen now… Learn.

This is something people need to know about. Instead of going through the “real life docu approach” the filmmakers have given some beauty to this ugly world we live in.

People are held back by brutes in politics and greedy medical institutions wrapped in the finger of the powerful and abusive.

A thrilling story backed up by respectable acting, produced excellently. A little something with meat and brain fodder.

  3. Arena (2011)

David Lord finds himself forced into the savage world of a modern gladiatorial arena, where men fight to the death for the entertainment of the online masses.

Virtual underground! Spartacus (tv) effects and action mixed with a story about “real” deathmatches… online!

Samuel “Mother Fucker” Jackson! hell yeah, who wouldn’t be excited?!? (look at how “smug” he looks on the poster) And then the film begins… It’s the same shit all over again… lame-ish fight choreography… with green screen/digital effects.

Kidnapped and forced to fight for his life is our hero Kellan Lutz. Mysterious guy, who won’t fight? typical and dreary. Well, for what it’s worth - in the end battle he looked pretty fuckin’ badass (yeah, even with the tiger growl sfx).

One character did shine. Swedish actress Katia Winter disrobed and reached out her sympathetic hand. Who is this chick??? For a manly-man flick she seemed to fit in it well.

There was a (predictable) twist in the end and all the pieces fall in- the chaotic and unexplained beginning. Cheap. And the “executioner”… oh my… what a pussy.

This was dreadful… BUT, I enjoyed both Spactacus series (style/effects) and was in the mood for something light, simple and stupid. An obvious “fail” i (sorta) enjoyed - in a Steven Segal/Chuck Norris kind of way.

It’s the usual kill or be killed themed action flick. Nothing new, nothing special.

  4. The Bang Bang Club (2010)

A drama based on the true-life experiences of four combat photographers capturing the final days of apartheid in South Africa.

In YO face! well not exactly… but this was a great tale of a few. Brave “conflict” Pioneers. The story behind the story.

Based on the book “The Bang-Bang Club Snapshots from a Hidden War” by João Silva.

Ryan Phillippe back on the leading man seat! Malin Akerman fuck yeah. Great production with greater results. Everyone involved did their job well, evident in the final product.

Since this is a film about badass photographers, one would expect great shots. This film delivered the beauty and shock of a world in turmoil. Gain, loss, wants and needs - human drama in the center of hell.

Drama at it’s finest - it’s based on a real group of photogs who brushed away self preservation to capture inhumane images and destructive behavior of man.

A good film by TV-Docu director Steven Silver. If you missed it, grab a copy now!

  5. Banned In America (1998)

Banned In America shows video clips of the darkest elements of human nature, society, and life; the very things that bring fear and disgust into our collective existences. Whether it be live executions, live suicides, or miscellaneous forms of evil, “America” shows us that a sinister world of death lies right outside our door, just waiting for our number to be called…

Gruesome! So freakin’ 90s! A film rooted on the misery, pain and death of others.

WARNING: Not for the weak of heart!

Morbid “caught on film” documentation paired with angry-blast-beat-Euro-techno, and a questionable voiceover (every now and then). Slo-mo shots and just plain brutal.

Similar to the legendary Faces of Death (1980)- which was “fake”.

I would like to stress out that this shockumentary is REAL. A mix and mash of random death footage… oh, and that random dude with elephantiasis balls.

This is SICK. You’re a SICK person if you watch it.

You want to see death? OK.

  6. The Art of the Steal (2009)

Documentary that follows the struggle for control of Dr. Albert C. Barnes’ 25 billion dollar collection of modern and post-impressionist art.

    Wake up… Philadelphia!

It’s very simple, my last will and testament should be honored. If not… then FUCK YOU ASSHOLE!

Bias??? YES, for a good and legitimate reason… POLI-fucking-TICS. If you smell shit, there must be shit creeping around under someone’s foot. The story does not add up as far as the “crooked” side is concerned. The seesaw favors the unjust… and accompanied by a atrocious disregard of rights and red-tape mischief. How can someone not feel connected? Life is unfair.

High brow snooty butler fingering disgusting hypocrites, who’s utterly blind goal is to leave a significant mark on socially lavish cliques whom they think represent the entirety of mankind.

FUCK all that, because this… is… a movie about… PRINCIPLES and HONOR. A rare and relevant (though bias) political and social commentary. Cultures are lost just like religion becomes myth. Sad but inevitable, due to the constant change of society for the betterment of mankind and it’s future.

All biases aside, this was an in-depth peek into a tiny particle on the surface of the Earth. Significant in humanitarian ways but insignificant to the majority who walk this planet. Which is probably the main reason of this films existence. The relevance is situational, but the meaning and value is universal. Just look around you and think of this as a metaphor, for all the fucked up “political conspiracy” shit/mumbo jumbo/hype we see in the news paper everyday.

Probably not a film for everyone, some viewers may need to view this a few times to understand the economic/political information presented. Art is relevant, whether we appreciate it or not. It is the purest form of human historical recollection, straight from the artist, and uniquely significant moment when he created the artwork/painting. Capturing time, so to speak.

I love Albert Barnes, muthafuckin’ stubborn/admirable son of a bitch, and the principles he lived by. Honor and Pride have never been so true and upheld. He let his dog be his signatory… dastardly awesome! Respect his last will and testament. Do not let “the man” fuck it up.

Money is GOD. Stop denying the power, opportunity and influence it possesses in a world/society blinded by bling/swag. Look at the mirror and be honest, the world would be a better place.

It is disgusting how red tape and details can fuck everything up. Corruption knows no bounds. But it’s a reality we all seem to accept… “face down ass up, that’s the way we like to fuck”. An old story… isn’t it sad? Intriguing and upsetting at the same time.

Mo money, Mo problems - i statement i despise, but cannot dispute.

  7. The Troll Hunter (2010)

A group of students investigates a series of mysterious bear killings, but learns that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter, learning that he is actually a troll hunter.

A sci-fi (fantasy) mockumentary like Cloverfield (2008), District 9 (2009) and Monsters (2010)… but this time with TROLLS! Delivered to us by Norwegian director André Øvredal. This was freakin’ fun!

So ridiculous it’s fun! I didn’t want to spoil the “reveal”, but as you can see from the poster… you kinda know what to expect. Yeah it’s fake, so fucking what?!? A government conspiracy unveiled before our very eyes. Hey man, ya gotta admit they were pretty smart about the “power lines”. I thought this was an ingenious film, which made use of the natural/local terrain.

They gave nice detail to the story, which kept me glued on the screen. They made the myth somewhat “believable” Kids will freakin’ love this! The child in me enjoyed it so much.

The CGI/creature animation was well done, and so was the filming not too clean not too dirty… just right. Damn Norway, i am impressed! It may not be an award winner, but in my  book… this will be remembered.

The genre of horror sci-fi fantasies are a dime a dozen nowadays, but this particular one offers something different. You think you know trolls? This ain’t no kiddie story!

It’s got a Troll hunter named “Hans”, who has a beard! ‘nuff said.

“No trolls were harmed during the making of this movie”

  8. 102 Minutes That Changed America (2008)

The morning of September 11, 2001 is shown through multiple video cameras in and around New York City, from the moment the first WTC tower is hit until after both towers collapse.

Mom says to turn on the T.V. and then… “It’s like a fucking movie!” is what i initially said, when the 2nd plane hit. This documentary brought me back.

There are no conspiracies and no twists, An honest and genuine experience without any biases. It’s as raw as history gets. A catastrophic moment in time, captured by a few individuals. Edited neatly and presented in a very professional way.

    Intense and brutal.

  9. Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father (2008)

A filmmaker decides to memorialize a murdered friend when his friend’s ex-girlfriend announces she is expecting his son.

Wow! a truly moving documentary by Kurt Kuen, friend of the departed Dr. Andrew Bagby. What an emotional roller coaster! The story is about a custody battle between a mother and the grandparents of an unfortunate child. And as if the situation wasn’t bad enough, more twists emerge that rattle nerves with disappointment.

A real look into the hearts of people. Both bad and good attributes of people are seen. The greatest battle was in the courts, what a shitty system. This is an eyeopener, made possible by a tragic event (which could have been prevented).

Powerful and heart felt. Truly a great watch, prepare yourselves. Real life “horrors” are much more frightening than monster/ghost horrors. What a monster.

  10. August Underground’s Mordum (2001)

Two serial killers go on a murdering rampage as one films the outcome from behind a video camera. One of the most realistically portrayed simulated snuff films.

This is probably something I would’ve enjoyed during my “dark angsty-teen” years. I wasn’t too happy about “the film”… (extremely amateurish and close to degrading type porn) but the effort in portraying believable deaths were so much better then it’s predecessors like: Cannibal Holocaust (1980).

So there isn’t really anything but kill kill kill, stab stab stab, rape rape rape all captured with a handy-cam. Very violent and graphic. You also have the “killers” who look like depraved youths seeking fun in massacring innocent bystanders (it seemed too random). And these characters were just… insane/cracked out/degenerates of society.

Tagged as “The sickest film ever made”, the producers dare you to watch. A lot of mixed reviews on the stupidity/no talent vs quality/substance of this movie. The question is if you can handle it?

On a personal note: I think it was a bad choice on my part, to view this before going to bed last night. It really had nothing to offer but violence.

priestpoetandthepig replied to your photo: August Underground’s Mordum (2001) Two serial…

August Underground is shit. If it looks like shit and smells like shit, then it must be shit. Nothing but gimmick “torture porn” nonsense. The 70s and video nasties done it better 20 years ago.

lol YEAH, there is NO story at all and it does look, smells, sounds like shit. It is shit, but without the shit, we can never appreciate crap (tolerable to some degree films). Someone’s gotta watch these flicks… (i’m glad to know i’m not the only one’s who’s seen this so called Art-Gore “film”)
