  1. Shame (2011)

Brandon is a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon’s insular life spirals out of control.

A Marvelous display of skin and sin! Directed by Steve McQueen (III) - and shot in 25 days.

The acting was truly admirable, and so were the impromptu one-shot takes. Michael Fassbender was AWESOME! His star is growing bigger and brighter every time he graces the screen. And to do what he did here… Solid!

His sister, played by, Carey Mulligan was terrific! Troubled chicks turn me on (gentlemen? we prey on the weak). Strength and weakness. The balance of sanity versus desire is toppled when she steps in. The siblings share an odd relationship…

TRIVIA: The scene where Brandon hears his sister sing in the restaurant was shot in real time. James Badge Dale and Michael Fassbender had never heard Carey Mulligan sing before so their reactions were real. The scene was shot at 3 a.m in the morning with cameras focused on all 3 performers at the same time.

The performance of “New York, New York” was amusing and set the tone perfectly. Sultry and somber at the same time.

*Why did i chose to use THIS POSTER? It says a lot about the film. Ichi the Killer (2001) anyone? Sperm.

Slow and drawn out to the very end. It’s all about sex and the relationship between siblings and unmentionables. Threesome?!? Yes please.

Some have mentioned that “nothing really happens in the film”- i beg to differ. Discouraged by life’s many problems, some of us find solace and comfort in the arms of others. Especially when they trigger arousal or a temporary escape from their mediocre/boring lives. Sex is FUN! And it can also be destructive, never underestimate the power of Lust.

Dialogue? as the saying goes actions (film/photos) speak a thousand words. The movie draws empathy from it’s viewers and radiates moral decisions we all make for ourselves as individuals.

Produced well and possibly an award winner. This controversial flick will definitely come across fire from both sexually open and closed individuals. The battle of content begins! The “scenes” were great!

It’s a mindgame, played exclusively by our leading man. We join him on a journey of discovery and acceptance of desires. Not the film you thought it’d be?

    Shame on… who?

  2. What’s Your Number (2011)

A woman looks back at the past twenty men she’s had relationships with in her life and wonders if one of them might be her one true love.

A romantic comedy based on the novel “20 Times a Lady” by Karyn Bosnak.

Anna Faris is back with some laughs and sexiness. It’s an adult relationship comedy with some “laughable” realities some of us have faced. Douchebags, bitches and those in-between.

OH, The men in her life! Joel McHale, Zachary Quinto and Chris Pratt play a few of the questionable male specimen douches in this flick. BUT Andy Samberg takes the cake! That “face”. Hilarious every time!

Leading man Chris Evans brings his swagger and comedic stylings once again. The man is a comedian, no doubt about it. He can sell funny, even in a serious role. He looks friendly, and maybe that’s the hook.

Pleasant, funny and light. Not bad for a film like many others. Predictable and yet entertaining. Moms and girls will like this, dunno about grandma…

It’s a dumb movie. This could have been a “fail” but the strong cast and clean flow helped this be an “ok” in my books. Anna Faris has always made me happy in my pants.

  3. The Skin I Live In (2011) aka La piel que habito

A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.

Talk to Her (2002) and Volver (2006) Spanish maestro Pedro Almodóvar is back with a twisted dark medical romance. Me gusta!

Suave swagger is back! Antonio Banderas is the Frankenstein/Marquis De Sade-ish medical practitioner who keeps a deep dark secret. He was absolutely brilliant in this one.

The exquisite, stunning and talented Elena Anaya has captivated me once again. Gorgeous is an understatement. I was enamored by those beautiful eyes. Her interactions with the maid, doctor and The Cat were captivating and sinister.

I can proudly say “This is one of my favorites of 2011”. Twisted, sick and interesting. A different kind of torture horror, with a dash of mystery and suspense. Mashing up genres and delivering astonishingly sexy visuals.

Definitely a “must see”. Revenge most vile.

  4. Bellflower (2011)

Two friends spend all their free time building flame-throwers and weapons of mass destruction in hopes that a global apocalypse will occur and clear the runway for their imaginary gang “Mother Medusa”.

Directed, Written and Starring Evan Glodell. Bravo!

“Lord Humungus cannot be defied.” - Lord Humungus.

Woodrow and Aiden are best buds who love Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981). So much so, that they make their own flame-throwers and ride a modified “Mother Medusa” mobile. The apocalypse is nigh!

And then… the end begins… One falls madly in love with a quirky and fun blonde. The dynamic duos friendship is put to the test. Love is a BITCH.

TRIVIA: No functionality of the Medusa car was faked during filming. The real life the car is equipped with two flamethrowers, smoke screen, a bleach drift-kit, adjustable rear suspension, and 3 surveillance cameras; all controlled from the dashboard.

So why the love? This film hit my gut in a way i could never have imagined. A wicked apocalyptic journey with lessons on love and… Friendship - The key element in this fantastic indie fantasy.

I loved the car and the texture of the film. Gritty and gnarly. Badass, and yet carries a torch for romance and life.

Physical and Emotional devastation! The acting, script and overall production was superb. The use of words like “dude” and “awesome” made it easier for (me) audiences to relate to the content.

Women can be the end of all things men know. Portrayed in this film with violence and ruthlessness of love. The tattoo bit was harsh! Sometime we need to listen to our friends, they may just save us from impending doom.

“You are Lord Fucking Humongous: the Master of Fire, the King of the Wasteland.”

Imagine being trapped in a gray world between friendship and love. What would you choose?

  5. On The Inside (2011)

A decent but troubled young man is sent to a psychiatric institution for the criminally insane and soon finds himself in a fight for his life battling ghosts inside his head and very real enemies all around him.

Written and directed by D.W. Brown., who’s more of an actor rather than captain of the ship. Nice effort in making “another one of these”.

A psychological drama turned psycho thriller… of sorts.

Nick Stahl and Olivia Wilde play the romantic duo inmates. Stahl? yep, he’s still making movies. Wilde - still looks WILD without make-up. I thought it was refreshing seeing her act this time around.

The supporting cast did what was required. Pruitt Taylor Vince as the clumsy fat guy again. And the badass douche in this one is Dash Mihok, who does a… cliche job at it.

So we have troubled people in a facility they wish to escape, ties are made between our cages characters. Eventually someone goes nuts and fucks everything up. This was predictable…

A little film that would go well on the Hallmark channel. Performances were good but “i’ve seen it all before”.

Not bad for a full length directorial debut - let’s see how his 2nd one goes…

  6. 50/50 (2011)

Inspired by a true story, a comedy centered on a 27-year-old guy who learns of his cancer diagnosis, and his subsequent struggle to beat the disease.

Inspirational! You can do it, don’t die… live… live! Liiiiive!

A funny take on life, death and love… nothing can get you through the bad times like a good friend. “I told you so!”

I had mixed emotions that ran from sad to happy. This had it’s fine moments, that would make people think about their own lives.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is our poor old hero facing the ultimate adventure… death. The always cotton mouth, Seth Rogen plays his reliable wingman. And Anna Kendrick is the ray of sunshine. While Bryce Dallas Howard was the bitch. Rogen and JGL made an awesome pair of average joes/goofs. Behind the humor there was truth.

TRIVIA: Joseph Gordon-Levitt actually shaved his head during filming. Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen were improvising in character while the cameras kept rolling since the scene was not in the script.

This was definitely one of those 2011 surprises. Romantic in a way but focus was on the battle versus cancer. - a fight close to home. And this film showed the brighter side of… hope.

Entertaining and based on the experience of the writer. It doesn’t get any personal than that. Love’s a bitch, and so is Life.

  7. Judas Kiss (2011)

A quirk in time and space gives a failed filmmaker the chance to reshape his destiny when he visits his peculiar alma mater.

Zach goes back to the school he attended to judge a film competition. He meets Danny… Awkward… And then we get some hints of something bigger happening in the world around them.

“Change the kid’s past, change your future.”

Disqualified! I expected a drama slash sci-fi - i got a lot of man-on-man kissing! Not for the homophobes at heart.

Judas Kiss - falls under the predictable side of things but spread out like a book. Gives new meaning to the saying: “go fuck yourself”.

The acting was ok, the effects were… Hallmark quality and the story was mediocre - for a sci-fi. The guts of the film lies within the relationships of the gentlemen involved, with each other.

A near “fail” but the story was compelling enough for an “ok”.

Prepare yourselves for some man lovin’

  8. The Art Of Getting By (2011)

George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who’s made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, is befriended by Sally, a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.

Another ‘11 teen romance flick… The 1st full length feature of writer/director Gavin Wiesen. Another cliche teen drama…

Life, Love and the decisions we make for ourselves. Balancing grades and life ain’t that easy.

“Awkward” would best describe the relationship of our leads Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts. Cute but at times annoying and frustrating. WOAH! Alicia Silverstone as the wiser one! She’s back, but not as glamorous as you’d expect.

Red State (2011) Michael Angarano is a good actor. Can’t wait to see more of the (just smoked pot faced) dude.

The film felt dry at times, but had some stuff/lessons to offer audiences. I had low expectations coming in to this and i believe it’s the way this should be watched. And old story re-told again and again.

It was “ok”, nothing grand or mesmerizing. Maybe i’m getting old for these types of flicks? maybe.

Wise ass says: “Been there done that”

  9. Our Idiot Brother (2011)

A comedy centered on an idealist who barges into the lives of his three sisters.

WILLIE NELSOOOOON!!!! As the saying goes “Nice guys finish…”

Naivety, honesty and good will towards - becomes the butt of the joke.

Those damn filthy hippies! Paul Rudd plays “the dude” aka “ghandi” aka “my bro” in the Rudd way we all know and love. That stupid face, it amazes and amuses.

The women… THE BABES! aka sisters Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, Zooey Deschanel and her main squeeze Rashida Jones = testes exploding!!! Cuties, lezzzbians and bitches surround our hapless hero. Let’s not forget the asshole, Steve Coogan. Who gives us a “peek” of his diamonds.

The story was a bit shallow, but had current cultural/situational relevance. Guys ad gals will like this. Not a “HAHA!” comedy… a pleasant one.

A film with good intentions morals and love for family. It’s got heart.

Laughs for mature audiences. We are all evil and have to be reminded of the simpler things in life. Love to live and live to love.

  10. The Change-Up (2011)

A comedy in which a married father accidentally switches bodies with his best friend, leading to a series of wildly complex difficulties.

Poop humor with sissies and douchebags!

One has babies, the other has babes.

A feel good “try wearing my shoes” comedy, for the boys men. Business minded Jason Bateman & self gratifying Ryan Reynolds are the pals who get in over their heads “wishing” for change. When they get their wish… balls are shaved!

A somewhat typical scenario we’ve seen in many films - usually where an adult and child switch places/age.

The ladies… oh the ladies. Olivia Wilde gets hot and sexy, as the ravenous co-worker. And Leslie Mann “I’m starvin… let’s get some fuckin french toast!” is my dream wife. The ladies rocked it! BUT when i did some research…

LIES!!! ALL LIES!!! F.U. Hollywood!!! -> TRIVIA: Most of the female nudity is not real. Computer-generated breasts were used for Leslie Mann and Olivia Wilde.

An enjoyable comedy about responsibilities and reflection. We sometimes stray from the path we have chosen to try and see the “what ifs”. Let’s learn from each other.

    Careful where you pee.

  11. Cherry (2010)

An Ivy League freshman gets an unexpected education when he falls for an older woman and her 14 year-old daughter develops a crush on him.

Dysfunctional love triangle, without any age limit!

Written and directed by Jeffrey Fine. Well done sir, well done.

Breaking the parental shackles and following your dreams. A very nice coming of age story, with ups and downs.

Lucky guy Kyle Gallner is the man torn between two females. A performance worth noting. Mom Laura Allen seduced and partied hard. Definitely a MILF. And “oh not so young” Britt Robertson is the cherry on the cake. There was great chemistry between the entire cast.

Twisted wants versus the right thing to do and the risks we take with friendships.

A couple of giggles here and there… a film that makes you reflect and think. Love knows no age.

    “Walk on water”

I thought this was a well rounded film… wasn’t exactly my type, but i appreciated the viewing. Something for mom and sis.

  12. Friends with Benefits (2011)

While trying to avoid the clichés of Hollywood romantic comedies, Dylan and Jamie soon discover however that adding the act of sex to their friendship does lead to complications.

A film highly suggested to me by my officemate…

It’s all about “Fuck Buddies”, the pros and cons.

A fun relationship flick! After the success Easy A (2010), director Will Gluck returns to the directors seat for this raunchy love affair between friends. This time around it gets serious.

    It’s just sex.

Headhunter babe Mila Kunis and “man in demand” Justin Timberlake make a wonderful on-screen couple. The chemistry was definitely there. Both shone equally as bright. My eyes were fixed on Kunis all throughout, goddamn H.O.T.

Woody Harrelson and Jenna Elfman bring humor and wisdom to the table. And cameos by Andy Samberg and Emma Stone!

Surprisingly funny and well done. It ain’t an “all out” laughtrip, it’s a believable story backed up by solid acting. Beautiful people and sights. What more could a romantic comedy need?

This brought back happy and sad memories… how bittersweet it is.

Been here, done that - Cliche… entertaining cliches. Good film, good vibes.

  13. Colombiana (2011)

A young woman, after witnessing her parents’ murder as a child in Bogota, grows up to be a stone-cold assassin.

A revenge flick for the ladies! Starring the gorgeous Zoe Saldana. That’s it.

Even with the wit and skill of writer Luc Besson… they managed to create something… Plain. Everything about this was childish and relatively “boring” to the action film aficionados. “Impossible” to say the least…

Jordi Mollà! Playing the same character, yet again. One word sums it up “Predictable”.

And the killer “signature” looks like a vagina.

Well… it is what it is. Vengeance is Beautiful?

  14. Midnight in Paris (2011)

A romantic comedy about a family traveling to the French capital for business. The party includes a young engaged couple forced to confront the illusion that a life different from their own is better.

Woody Allen relationship gold, once again. This time around showing some love for Paris.

Struggling writer Owen Wilson and his cutie Rachel McAdams head off to Paris. After some time in the city of love, they find themselves doing things separately. Wife to be starts going out, dancing the night away. While our hero walks the city and accidentally travels back to a time of art and characters!

It’s the culture. Rich and full of… interesting characters, like: Kathy Bates, Kurt Fuller, Corey Stoll, Michael Sheen and Salvador Dali = Adrien Brody “I see rhinoceros!”  -man he cracked me up!

A “midnight” fantasy. Don’t ask “why?” or “How?”, just watch and enjoy the show. Weighing out your options in life. A tale of finding inspiration from the most unlikely places/persons.

Walking in the rain. Relationships, much like life - are very unpredictable. A fun and light hearted film. Not as romantic as it is liberating.
