  1. The Art Of Getting By (2011)

George, a lonely and fatalistic teen who’s made it all the way to his senior year without ever having done a real day of work, is befriended by Sally, a popular but complicated girl who recognizes in him a kindred spirit.

Another ‘11 teen romance flick… The 1st full length feature of writer/director Gavin Wiesen. Another cliche teen drama…

Life, Love and the decisions we make for ourselves. Balancing grades and life ain’t that easy.

“Awkward” would best describe the relationship of our leads Freddie Highmore and Emma Roberts. Cute but at times annoying and frustrating. WOAH! Alicia Silverstone as the wiser one! She’s back, but not as glamorous as you’d expect.

Red State (2011) Michael Angarano is a good actor. Can’t wait to see more of the (just smoked pot faced) dude.

The film felt dry at times, but had some stuff/lessons to offer audiences. I had low expectations coming in to this and i believe it’s the way this should be watched. And old story re-told again and again.

It was “ok”, nothing grand or mesmerizing. Maybe i’m getting old for these types of flicks? maybe.

Wise ass says: “Been there done that”

  2. The Howling: Reborn (2011)

On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past… that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will’s growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them… and then, us all.

Continuing the saga of beastly encounters…

    The Howling (1981) - A fuckin’ classic!
Howling II: … Your Sister Is a Werewolf (1985)
    Howling III (1987)
Howling IV: The Original Nightmare (1988)
    Howling V: The Rebirth (1989)
    Howling VI: The Freaks (1991)
    Howling: New Moon Rising (1995)

Part 8! A rebirth possibly influenced by the sudden burst of recent horror/romantic teen flicks. Angst & puberty with “Gossip Boy” narration by our oh so cursed gifted leading student, who’s after the too hot to handle high school cutie.

Awaken the beast! via drug party scene!!! Sick trip man… Slow-mo and burr effects… typical… the special effects were nothing special. It’s not like we all didn’t see this coming (It was either a “bad” or a “so bad it’s good” coin toss).

I’ll admit there were a few ok city shots (stock footage?). THISt obviously falls in the “straight to video” category.

Oh mom! the cast was err… The school boy gets powers revenge and deals with the consequences… girl in trouble… love… douchebaggy male model goons… hardly any violent scenes… queen bee… they run away, but wait… they eventually fight…

And then the elevator life saving moment… oh boy. Ridiculous, this blew the roof of fantasy to the stratosphere (i laughed out loud). Love is a comedy. That’s it, i’ve had enough… started my review…

“I know it’s hard to swallow” - No fuckin’ shit Sherlock. This wolfpack bombed.

  3. Outside Providence (1999)

After one too many run ins with the law, a punk teenager from a working class background is sent to prep school by his frustrated dad, and learns a thing or two.

Based on the novel by Peter Farrelly.

The Farrelly Brothers capture the 70s! An uplifting and funny story about a teens journey and misadventures.

This is a great UNDERRATED dramedy. Everyone should catch this one! Everyone can relate with the trials of young life. And the OST is superb!

They executed this film well, especially in the casting department.

“Hey Dildo.” Old Man Dunphy, Alec Baldwin at his funniest!!! ‘til he struck comedy gold in 30 Rock. He disappeared from the spotlight and made me laugh my ass off as the know-it-all father. And his homophobic “buddies” are a hilarious mix of familiar tv/movie “dads”.

Shawn Hatosy did a great job in the lead role as Dunph. Love the pothead scenes with his buds. AND Jizz! “The glue that binds us together”

His main squeeze Amy Smart had me at hello, and continues to have me ‘til this very day. H.O.T.

Family, Friends and Love. A feel good comedy with some heart.

  4. Take Me Home Tonight (2011)

Follow an aimless college grad who pursues his dream girl at a wild Labor Day weekend party. He, his twin sister and their best friend struggle with their burgeoning adulthood over the course of the night.

The 80s comeback revival returns again!!! A Can’t Hardly Wait (1998) set in the 80s, for modern cinema goers.

“You lied so that you could sleep with me?” - why yes, who hasn’t.

So it’s another “get your shit together son” movie for teens and young adults. Light in nature and presents a night of fun and madness. Wholesome up until (funny fat guy) Dan Fogler whoops out his baggie of coke.

Topher Grace stars in this (sorta) coming of age film. He’s way too old for these, c’mon the guy played Venom for heavens sake. And Anna Faris, it’s time to move on to bigger things. She seemed like “in the shadows” in this flick. Teresa Palmer was “ok” but not attractive, in my standards. She was like wonder bread. Woah! A hero has come forth, Michael Biehn YES!!! Superb!

Coke-heads will like some of the funny bits and horndogs will like the bathroom stall scene. The dialogue and dilemmas are the same as other teen comedies. There are trials to face and fears to be overcome. Be yourself son, and don’t give a fuck what others think.

Positive and vibrant like the era it embodies. Wasn’t my type of film, but i enjoyed it. Typical and yet fun. Give it a try, it just might be your thing.

  5. Kaboom (2010)

A sci-fi story centered on the sexual awakening of a group of college students.

Think you have teenage problems? Think again. Nothing is what it seems.

Another sexually charged bizarro fest by writer/director Gregg Araki. Notoriously known for his films Mysterious Skin (2004) and The Doom Generation (1995). He tones down on the sexual details (a bit) for this latest sexmedy.

This is a great launch pad for leading teen Thomas Dekker, as far as the general woman population is concerned.

Lesbians! Haley Bennett & (the witch) Roxane Mesquida were awesome to watch. Their side story love affair was funny. Ei! it’s James Duval from The Doom Generation (1995). My my my, Juno Temple has grown a lot since Year One (2009).

Pretty much your standard confused (is he straight, is he gay) teen about to hit 19, he has friends and they all sleep together. An hour into the movie… it gets weird. And i mean WEIRD. A witch, supernatural powers, vivid dreams, a cult conspiracy, traitors and the usual WTF?!?!? signature Araki moments.

“strange seems to be the new nornal” - as with ALL of the directors films. This may nto make much sense, but it was entertaining. In a trivial way.

It gets stupid towards the end… but that is the “Kaboom!” you didn’t see coming. This may just blow your mind. It’s a shocker.

*Is it just me or did anyone else get the Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000) vibe?

  6. 11:14 (2003) aka Eleven Fourteen

Tells the seemingly random yet vitally connected story of a set of incidents that all converge one evening at 11:14pm. The story follows the chain of events of five different characters and five different storylines that all converge to tell the story of murder and deceit.

A well orchestrated series of events. Well done Mr. Greg Marcks, sadly this was much better than his most recent film Echelon Conspiracy (2009).

And the cast was great, it was nice seeing familiar faces. Colin Hanks and Ben Foster are two of the three “idiot” youths. Hilary Swank as the geeky shop attendant with braces. “I think she’s still cute” Rachael Leigh Cook is the promiscuous daughter. Bless his soul, Patrick Swayze plays the stressed out dad. I remembered Outside Providence (1999) when i saw Shawn Hatosy. And “WTF?!?” a skinny Jason Segel plays one of the paramedics, that have to deal with the “penis” situation.

A bit on the crazy side of coincidence and misfortune. The “what will happen next?” formula usually works. A well rounded film with surprises for all to enjoy.

  7. August Underground’s Mordum (2001)

Two serial killers go on a murdering rampage as one films the outcome from behind a video camera. One of the most realistically portrayed simulated snuff films.

This is probably something I would’ve enjoyed during my “dark angsty-teen” years. I wasn’t too happy about “the film”… (extremely amateurish and close to degrading type porn) but the effort in portraying believable deaths were so much better then it’s predecessors like: Cannibal Holocaust (1980).

So there isn’t really anything but kill kill kill, stab stab stab, rape rape rape all captured with a handy-cam. Very violent and graphic. You also have the “killers” who look like depraved youths seeking fun in massacring innocent bystanders (it seemed too random). And these characters were just… insane/cracked out/degenerates of society.

Tagged as “The sickest film ever made”, the producers dare you to watch. A lot of mixed reviews on the stupidity/no talent vs quality/substance of this movie. The question is if you can handle it?

On a personal note: I think it was a bad choice on my part, to view this before going to bed last night. It really had nothing to offer but violence.

priestpoetandthepig replied to your photo: August Underground’s Mordum (2001) Two serial…

August Underground is shit. If it looks like shit and smells like shit, then it must be shit. Nothing but gimmick “torture porn” nonsense. The 70s and video nasties done it better 20 years ago.

lol YEAH, there is NO story at all and it does look, smells, sounds like shit. It is shit, but without the shit, we can never appreciate crap (tolerable to some degree films). Someone’s gotta watch these flicks… (i’m glad to know i’m not the only one’s who’s seen this so called Art-Gore “film”)

  8. Deadgirl (2008)

Two high school boys discover an imprisoned woman in an abandoned mental asylum who cannot die.

The girls couldn’t wait to finish this film last night. What a disturbing concept, very juvenile and shallow at the same time. Violent? not as much as you’d think. Sick? maybe to some (non-pervs). Acting? what acting??? The “Girl” was pretty freaky… that’s it.

The only saving grace of this movie is that the “dead girl” was actually a… Yep, it made me smile too. watch it at your own risk.
